My students will start the year off learning virtually, and one of the consequences of this learning experience will be the lack of access to printed books from our library and from my classroom. I have always loved to give my students dedicated reading time during my class, usually with a book of their own interest. But we also will read one book together as a class, and I'd like it to be *The Watsons Go to Birmingham*. This past year's events are too inspirational not to explore, and this book is the way to do that. It will allow the students to think critically about the reaches of the civil rights movement, and to then make a connection to this year's protests. I'm sure it will become a favorite for students.
