Our students are 3rd & 4th graders with varying disabilities - from Downs Syndrome to Autism to other highly rare genetic diseases, all of which significantly affect their learning abilities. They are a fun, exciting, and sweet group of kids, and teaching them is the greatest privilege and pleasure, and sometimes a major challenge, honestly. We are a very culturally diverse classroom, both in terms of ethnicity and socio-economic status. We are located at a school that traditionally is a very rigorous and high performing public K-6 school, with very little academic intervention needed. Many of our students are the only English Language Learners and low income students on campus, and part of only a small handful of students with disabilities. Therefore, our resources for creatively addressing their academic deficiencies are limited, since they are such a small minority on campus. They are amazingly motivated to learn and my goal is to give them the best chance they have to succeed!
