I currently teach in a focus school with 18 students in my class. I have an inclusion class which includes special education students and those with mixed learning abilities and styles. They love learning and work very hard. We lack the resources needed to add excitement to reading literacy centers. A typical reading block is 90 minutes long. During this time, the students take part in a whole group lesson, then rotate during interactive and fun literacy activities while I, the teacher meet with a small group of students and provide them with a reading lesson. My students loose interest very quick, as do many second graders, and by providing them with as many hands on opportunities as possible will continue to encourage them to learn and stay involved. Although behavior is not a major issue in my class, when students don't have activities to keep their interest, my students tend to make poor choices that not only affect their learning, but others in our class. This is a great group of students.
