My students are struggling youths, who choose to work towards a "no negativity" lifestyle, with me, in spite of their unimaginable challenges. These children volunteer to work a Peer Mediation program on their lunch periods, learning therapist communication and de-escalation strategies to prevent and resolve countless altercations per year. My students also volunteer to get on camera each year and share out their truths, in an effort to spread the message of "no negativity". They describe their personal challenges such as losses of parents & siblings, being victims of sexual assault, homelessness, foster care, constant suspensions from school, surrounded by violence, and hunger. Although I can't solve every problem, I can rest my head knowing that my room is a safe haven, offering food, clothing, art supplies, relaxation materials, and more. Providing for 1,350+ students is out of my budget and I need some help!
