I teach first graders in an inner city school in California. The children come from diverse cultures and abilities and most are receiving free or reduced lunch because of low income. Students come from Somalia, Mexico, Korea, Pakistan, Iraq and are learning English. Others are African American or come from European Heritage. Some are Autistic. In this diverse environment my students learn to respect each others differences and celebrate their successes. We learn to respect the natural world and to be good stewards of the environment through conservation, while learning to read, write and problem solve. Curiosity of the natural world is of the up most importance for these little guys and I intend to keep it that way and make them life long learners.
