My students are from a highly urban and under-privileged part of Massachusetts. They are a very talented and gifted group of students, but lack the resources and opportunities to develop and express all of their talents. We have a very limited pool of resources at our disposal. Despite this, my students have accomplished some wonderful things. A few years ago, they constructed a weather balloon capsule that was launched 20 miles into the atmosphere to capture pictures of Earth and space. They've also become successful roboticists and have walked away with top honors at a local robotics competition a few years running. With the limited capital I have at my disposal the number of students I can have participate in these activities is very small compared to the number of students I have expressing an interest. Typically, I can support 5 students with the resources I have on hand, but have 50 to 100 students eager to participate.
