My students are fourth graders who truly enjoy coming to school to learn and grow academically, as well as make friends and improve personally. More than half of my students are second language learners. It is so important that my student have culturally relevant materials and novels in the classroom. (Our school library has a limited selection of novels for fourth graders, and the nearest public library is more than 5 miles away.) My students are eager to perform and do very well in all academic areas. They enjoy reading every chance they get. They search through old bags of donated books that they have read over and over. They are in such need of a good selection of books on a daily basis. My school is located in an urban area, nestled in a neighborhood. My students' parents work extremely hard, with some working more than one job. Most donate items to the classroom to support student learning. All are grateful to be attending school and given this opportunity.
