It is crucial for my third grade students to gain number sense in order to meet grade level standards and be successful in math. Due to the pandemic, many of my students are performing at reading and math levels that are one to two grade levels below third grade. My goal is to use Unifix cubes and Cuisinaire rods to tailor my math instruction to meet their needs through concrete experiences off of a digital screen. My students also love having discussions about nonfiction topics that relate to the world around them. The TIME for Kids magazine will provide them with weekly opportunities to read and analyze nonfiction text about current events.
