I am the lucky teacher of a second grade class in Nevada. Our school is located in a low-income, mostly Hispanic neighborhood. Most of my students are English Language Learners (73%) and are working below grade level. Our students do not have many resources and their families often do not speak English at home, and therefore, cannot provide much academic support. We also have a lot of students who move throughout the district over the course of the year. This will often leave students with gaps in their education. We do our best to meet their needs and get them on grade level. Our students simply do not have resources at home, so we do our best to provide quality learning experiences for them at school.
