My second graders love art and are wonderful artists, and while I consider myself to be a passionate teacher and a fairly decent artist, I am certainly not an art teacher. My students would greatly benefit from a little more direction and inspiration from the "great" artists, such as Da Vinci, Matisse, and O'Keeffe. In addition, my students would benefit from some guided explorations of the elements of art, such as color, space, and form. We can find that direction, inspiration, and exploration through great children's books.
