My students will really benefit from a listening center and the storybook read-alongs. The listening center will be a great addition to our literacy workstations. Our classroom literacy workstations are all used simultaneously, while I work with small leveled reading groups. My first graders are all English language learners and some have special needs. Most of my students come from very low income households. They face many overwhelming challenges. My young children come to school with less exposure to language and most lack critical early childhood experiences. Many of the experiences that my 6 year olds lack are crucial to their academic growth and success. Most are high risk before they enter first grade.
