Have you ever tried to hold 20 beachballs underwater at the same time? Teaching kindergarten is much like that. It takes a great deal of energy, excitement, and motivation to entertain and make learning fun and interesting for these small children. I teach a self-contained class of 16 kindergarten students. At any given time, however, my total students will fluctuate as I get in new students or lose a few students. Due to the geographic location of our school, we continually get migrant students as well as industrial workers children throughout the year. I have gained a total of 4 students and have lost a total of 5 students since the beginning of this school year.
