I teach 1st grade in a nine years old school that houses K-6 grades. I have 19, bright, and eager students, that are excited and thrilled to read. The majority of them are reading on grade level, so one of my main goals and objectives this year is to help my students become better readers. After hearing and reading about the Daily 5 language arts program, I've decided to implement this program in my classroom. One of the components in the program is for students to listen to books on tape or CDs. In the past, my students have listened to reading with a listening center, but this year I want to provide them with a choice of books they want to hear. I feel if they have a choice, then they will be more eager to listen to books. Listening to books will strengthen my students comprehension and fluency skills, therefore, reaching my goal of helping my students to become better readers.
