Many of my students live in a tough environment at home. School is sometimes a great escape for them into a life of caring, love, and learning. I am starting my first year in 3rd grade and don't have the resources to make them successfully develop a love for reading and books. I am also a single mother so it is hard for me to purchase the things I think they need to truly develop that love of reading. I think by giving them books of high interest to read, not only will their skills develop wonderfully, but also their interest in reading will develop, and they will always be able to find a place to escape in a book.
