My students are predominately from low income families(over 75% on free or reduced lunches)from a now-closed mill town and from surrounding rural areas. While our area lacks industries and other sources of support, we do have a sense of community. Churches send people to read with the students, and parents and guardians participate in fund-raising events. Teachers put in extra effort to maintain close connections with parents and community. Our students look to the school for encouragement, care, and opportunities.

About my class
