We work daily on learning the letters, the letter sounds, and letter formation. This letter kit includes black letters for the consonants and red letters for the vowels. The different colors are a visual reminder for the children that vowels represent two different sounds. They are also magnetic which allows for the letters to stay where the children place them, making word-formation easier. Currently, we are working with cardstock squares with letters on them. These are difficult for the children to handle and they slide around on the table. We also have some plastic magnetic letters but they are not formed correctly which creates confusion. We all know how important literacy skills are for children and that young children are hands-on learners. These magnetic letters combine the two together. They will be wonderful resources for the children to be able to manipulate the alphabet. Not all children are developmentally ready to write but with these letters, the children will still be able to create words without the frustration of writing. Our goal is for the children to be successful. Your donation will ensure that the children have ample resources to identify letters, practice letter sounds, and manipulate the letters to create words. We have asked for five sets which will allow for one set per two children and a set for teacher use during small group instruction. The children will not only be using the letters during small group instruction but also individually and during large group instruction.
