Students in the inner city neighborhoods of PA are exposed to almost every social issue known to the United States. Our students are plagued with the unbearable traumas that no child should ever have to know. Unfortunately, our students do know. Students come to us with personal issues that cut to the heart to who they are as people. For example, students come to us to discuss the following serious issues they face on a daily basis. They include: drug and alcohol abuse, sexual abuse, witnessing fellow classmates getting killed, living on a drug block, teen pregnancy, close relatives in prison for many years, GLTB issues, peer pressure, and bullying. They are intelligent and capable young people, who need the skill sets for understanding history and making a positive difference in the lives of others.

About my class
