My students attend an urban public school. The population is 90% low income. My job is a very specific job: take kids who don't like to read and change their attitudes towards reading. My students are in 6-8 grades with multiple reading abilities, and a variety of interests. If I need mysteries novels, I'll need mystery novels from third to eighth grade reading levels. That's a lot of novels! I am constantly searching Amazon for new novels. One thing I love to do is let a student go on my Amazon account with me and choose some books. Or, I'll go to a book store over the weekend and, on Monday, tell a student, "I saw this book and I thought of you." The right book and the right reading level---that's golden!
