I teach students in a community with 89% receiving free or reduced price lunch. Most of these students get little to no interaction with literature and have little to no choice as to what they read. This keeps them from cultivating their own love of reading. This project will give students exposure to our favorite books so that they too can become lifetime readers. The books will be used in literature circles and students will be given a choice as to which one they are interested in reading. Students will meet in groups to discuss the books and take ownership of their own literacy. I can't wait to get started!
