My students are first graders and their world is new, exciting, fun, hands-on, and meaningful. My class loves to learn new things through reading books. Our school is brand new and doesn't have enough money to fund a school library. My solution is to build our classroom library and I have already provided books which I have purchased and collected over my years as a teacher. However, my personal library is merely a good start. I request help to purchase more books for our classroom so we have sufficient reading material. Our school is involved with the Accelerated Reading Program, a computerized program that tests reading comprehension. In order to fully participate in this program, we need books at numerous reading levels. For each book students read, they take an independent comprehension test on the computer. Students improve reading and comprehension as they progress through the program. More books in our classroom library will assist us in using this powerful tool.
