Meeting in small reading groups, we will engage in analysis of our leveled reading books. Not only are we looking for text features, we are looking a variety of literacy devices (Grade Level Literacy Standards) used to support comprehension and thematic clues. Having a variety of leveled books honors the spectrum of interest in our classroom. When classrooms have a variety of texts to choose from, students have fun. A high interest activity, such as conversation after reading, will lead to further inquiry. This could be in the form of a poster presentation, PowerPoint, or iMovie presentation. Having small group sets could also support our classroom library where students feel comfortable and excited about learning.
