My students are incredible 9th graders!!! Many come from a impoverish migrant community. Many also come from a middle school where they did not have at least one or more core teacher throughout a whole year. With that said, my students are some of the most courageous people I have even had the pleasure to teach, they do not shy away from obstacles or challenges in my English class. Every day I challenge them to read like champions and they sure do shine through their reading, even when faced with complex texts. Many of them don't own books at home which is why aside from improving their annotation skills with their own copies of the stories we read, it will also gift them with owning the stories we read and discuss throughout the year.
