Right now, if my students want to research or use a computer to do any work or planning for events and activities, they have to search out any available Chromebooks from the carts allocated to traditional disciplines. Most of the time they are unable to get more than one or two, which is not enough for the 44 students working in 8-10 different teams and committees. For example, each of my four grade level teams has to update spreadsheets involving orders for fundraisers. They usually have to split time with the one laptop I have and can't always complete their work in a timely manner as a result. I also have a team of juniors working on their plans for Prom. They have put together some amazing research and plans for the event, but they have been hampered by their inability to consistently have computers to work on and to research. Having consistent access to the technology they need to plan and organize their activities will improve their efficiency and help them be more successful with their goals. Previously, the students were disorganized and haphazard in their approach to planning activities. If something sounded fun, they'd just do it and there would be inevitable breakdowns due to a lack of planning and preparation. We (the president, vice president, and I) have been working hard to get everyone organized and to emphasize planning ahead. Having the Chromebooks would definitely give the students more flexibility with their projects. They would also be able to share and collaborate with each other and when coordinating events and activities with other schools.
