The students I teach INSPIRE me every day. Often our superintendent says that "demographics don't determine destiny" and it is something that I STRONGLY believe in. Our school is a Title 1 school where approximately 78% of students are classified as socioeconomically disadvantaged, over 94% of the students here are minorities with Latinos making up the majority at 90%. As a woman who is not only their teacher, but a minority herself who grew up in the neighboring community, I have a great responsibility to instill in them a sense of pride about who they are, no matter the challenges that they face in life they can make their dreams come true with hard work and dedication.
