I teach an extremely diverse group of 6- and 7-year-old children, many of whom come from economically disadvantaged families. The children are talented and bright and eager to learn. Each child has a special gift. It is my job to identify their strengths and use them in a way to develop a love of learning. I make an effort to involve the parents of my students in any way I can. Many of my students come from single parent homes which makes parent involvement difficult. For many of my students, the 7 hours they spend in school are the best hours of their day. Our school population is at 500 students. Funding for special projects and classroom supplies has been cut significantly in our district due to budget constraints.
