My students are grades K-2 and are in a self contained classroom. This means that they stay in the Special Education classroom all day, everyday because their disabilities are too severe. My students do not struggle intellectually but they do struggle socially, emotionally and behaviorally. These students have everything working against them at this time and need guidance and support for basic social interactions. They come from mostly broken homes in a very poverty stricken area. Children's stories that model correct behaviors and depict the consequences of inappropriate behaviors are easy to relate to and understand.
