My students are the sixth grade gifted cluster in an inner-city school in Phoenix Arizona. They are self-motivated and goal oriented kids that, with a little encouragement, consistently exceed my expectations. These are the high achieving kids at our title one school with over 90% of the students receiving free or reduced lunch. My school adopted an "upward bound" initiative in which each classroom emphasizes a university and sings a class chant in an effort to encourage our students to be aware of their future college options. Our classroom theme will be my alma mater, Arizona State University.
