I teach thirty fourth grade students in Southern California. Most of my students are identified as English language learners, students from high poverty homes and students with IEPs. Since my students have so many challenges, I need to make our classroom an exciting, safe, fun place to learn. Our school is a "Title 1" school with over 1,000 students in attendance. A majority of my students come from low-income based families and qualify for the National Free or Reduced Lunch program. Their home situations limit their ability to go out and explore the world. I try and bring as much of the world to them as I can. For example, sand from the beach or "real" snow. My students have faced many obstacles in their young lives but yet they come to school everyday with big smiles and an eagerness to learn.
