Grades 1 to 5 in ONE CLASSROOM! This year, our district started a new trend in special education wherein primary students (Grades 1-3) and intermediate students (Grades 4 and 5) are placed in ONE classroom with ONE teacher. I am one of those teachers who struggles to make this kind of set-up work with the help of a education specialist from the district. I have 9 students from 1st to 5th grade. I teach all subjects, and I have 9 additional students that I pullout from their regular class to address their IEPs. I have a handful of students with behavioral problems. Good planning and the use of centers make this kind of set-up Orkney I work with a group, the rest of the students are in their centers reinforcing lessons they have learned and addressing their IEP goals. Centers are used to reinforce behavior too.
