My students are from the inner city. All of the students in my building qualify for free lunch, which shows the poverty level of my students. They have experienced situations and have lived through more stuff than I will ever do in my life time. A majority of them come from broken homes, up to 80% of our students have no father living at home. Our students are excited about life, and yet their view of life can be so limited due to their environment. They live pretty independent lives, so that when a child is asked to do his/her homework it is virtually up to the child whether or not he/she wants to do it. There are not many adults outside of the school that are encouraging them to work hard at their education. My students need extra support in order to simply perform life's simple tasks.
