As we transition back to the classroom, I want to assure that my young students remember my classroom and their first formal school experience as a colorful, well-provisioned space where flexibility was practiced alongside physical distancing and other safety measures. We come together during a crisis, but this time we are told to stay apart. During this pandemic, we are being cautioned to stay apart. I have requested equipment for 20 individual "islands" for my students. These will be spread around the classroom, 6' apart. The rocker seats and mats provide a safe space for the children to move about. The rocker seats and the lap desks lend themselves to move quickly to outdoor spaces for educational activities. The storage boxes will keep manipulatives and school supplies for each student. The spots and walking ropes will be used to navigate the classroom and school environments. There are safety masks and shields for the children to wear. These will be given to them to take home at the end of the year.
