I teach in an urban, low SES school district. My students are kind, funny, and intelligent but many come to school facing many challenges. Many students are in need of additional supports not just academically, but also socially and behaviorally. Participation in the arts can strengthen both academic skills and those of self expression, and provide a way of understanding the world around them.
