Students at my school come from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. Some begin as bilingual students, some come to learn another language. Students of color make up over 86% of our population, over 32% speak English as their second language, over two thirds are eligible for free/reduced lunch, and many have parents who are recent immigrants. Our school motto is "a world of learners; where children gain a passport to the world," because students not only share their own diverse experiences at school, but have the opportunity to learn about local and international community issues.
