My students come from various ethnic backgrounds, including Cape Verdean and Haitian. They live in a very tight-knit community, but one that often lacks the resources of its neighbors. At my school, a large K-8, a majority receive free and reduced lunch. Despite the many challenges facing them, my students are thirsty for knowledge and routinely outperform the state averages in standardized tests. They are also appreciative of the people who help them on a day to day basis.
