My students come from a very small town in Mississippi. The income level for this area is very low, and the unemployment is very high. Many of my kids have it hard at home so I want to do everything I can to make their experience at school pleasant. It's amazing to watch these students light up when we study something they enjoy. I stumbled on a copy of the movie To Kill a Mockingbird and showed it to them for fun last year. At first, they were turned off by the movie because it was in black and white, but as it progressed...oh boy, they got excited. Watching them enjoy this classic was fun. I am not allowed to ask parents or legal guardians to purchase books to read in class, and I really think they deserve to read this wonderful story. Our school is very small and our students are wonderful!
