I teach 2nd grade with 25 students. My school is considered high poverty. It is located in the heart of our city. All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch every day. The neighborhoods they come from can be rough. Many of them do not go outside to play. Many of their parents work so hard to make ends meet which leaves little time for reading at home. Even with the challenges they may face at home, my students come to school every day excited to learn. They embrace challenges, and are enthusiastic to learn new things. In our classroom, it is all about reading. We spend the majority of our day reading, listening to reading, and writing.
