The students in my classroom are readers, writers, and teachers. They come from various backgrounds as readers and read on a variety of levels from significantly below to on target. I teach ELA in 5th grade which consists of Reader's and Writer's Workshop with multiple classes. We are fortunate family members of a very large yet tight-knit school building community. At our school, we are focusing on collecting and analyzing student data across all content areas on a consistent basis in order to help drive the instruction to best fit the needs of our students. This is one of the great things we are doing in an effort to improve state test scores and district accreditation status. In my own classroom, this means meeting my kids where they are at as readers and providing them with the materials and instructional support needed in order to improve fluency, comprehension, and most importantly instill a love for reading.
