I work in a self-contained, instructional classroom for students with a primary diagnosis of Autism. The students are 4th-6th graders but cognitively function between a pre-K- 2nd grade level. We work hard every day to focus on their communication, sensory, behavioral and academic needs. Our school is able to support us in ensuring that their communication, sensory, and behavioral needs are met. However, there is much less of a focus on the students' academic needs. The few materials that they provide us with are not appropriate for special ed. students functioning at their particular levels. We need materials that meet their needs and help them grow academically.
