I teach fourth grade math in a diverse, middle poverty district. My students love math and crave challenges. However, the math skills they learn each day are often taught in isolation leaving students feeling disconnected from how math is used in everyday life. Many of my students don't have opportunities outside the classroom to make real-world math connections, so providing them with opportunities to apply their math skills in school is essential.
