My class has 26 four-year-old kindergarten students. The students at my school are white, Hispanic, African American, and Native American. Ninety-two percent of the students are eligible for free and reduced lunch placing it with a Title 1 label. Kindergarten students are in need of structure and comfort with just enough change and flair. My students love hearing "carpet time." It gives them a chance to get up and move. They know the carpet is a place where we are all meeting together to learn something new and a place where we can discuss and practice these skills with each other.
