A classroom library will help promote literacy skills by giving my students access to the books and resources they need to become strong readers. Good literature will increase student motivation and engagement. Having the materials they need to practice their reading skills will help students to gain confidence in their abilities. They will increase their excitement for reading as they discover a whole new world through books. When students are excited about reading, they naturally want to read more. Developing high reading skills early on is essential for students to make progress and learn in all academic subjects. I will use a classroom library to encourage independent reading, work one-on-one with students to practice skills, and utilize small reading groups to encourage increasing their critical thinking skills through dialogue.
