These portable CD players will augment smaller CD players I already have in my classroom. The smaller, round ones I currently use are much more fragile and while my students are sworn to be gentle with them accidents do happen. Also with approximately 30 students a day using these CD players they do just eventually wear out. The students do a "cold read' for me then practice, practice, practice, before they are allowed to do a "hot read". I utilize the Marie Carbo, CD based, Power Reading Program. This program is tailor made for ELL students to hear fluent, expressive, correct intonation and vocabulary while reading. The improvement between the two readings is nothing short of remarkable. The students actually hear their improvement. They can articulate to me the improvement by describing how they read the first time in the cold read as opposed to how they read the second time in the hot read.
