Every school morning, as I take attendance, observing my students as they begin their morning work, I am glimpsing the promise, potential, and scope of humanity. My students are a very diverse group - - their families came to this country from around the globe. At least eight different languages are spoken in their homes. Our school is also a Title One School, which means that many of our families are struggling economically and their children qualify for the free lunch program. My students are learning how to work together to form a community of learners. It is not an easy task, setting aside cultural differences and egocentricities, but this is simply one, of many, 21st century skills that these students will need in order to thrive.
