My students come from low-income families. Many are raised by single parents or parents who both work full-time jobs to support the family. As a result, many do not have educationally enriching experiences before entering kindergarten. This lack of experience has an effect on learning in the classroom. My students come to school with a desire to feel safe, belong, be loved, be needed, and learn. My students respond positively to a classroom environment that is loving, structured, and safe. Many of my students eat free breakfast and lunch at school as they come from lower income families. They often do not have a lot at home and as a result are very thankful for all that is offered to them at school.
