We've used the materials to launch house-wide \"communities\" that earn points together through acts of kindness, teamwork, academic effort, and leadership. The house-themed decorations, wristbands, reward tokens, game supplies, and the small portable photo printer have helped us turn everyday classroom routines and moments into shared celebrations of belonging, motivation, and fun.\r\n\r\nWhen we first handed out the house wristbands and revealed the house banners, you could see the excitement on their faces. They went from being classmates to belonging to something bigger. Throughout the week, students earn points through kindness, perseverance, making wise choices, and being brave. Every Friday on 'House Day', students burst into their house rooms wearing their house colors, ready to cheer for their teams. It has become the day they look forward to most, because they know they'll get to celebrate each other's successes and work together toward shared goals.\r\n\r\nStudents are more engaged: we see more teamwork, encouragement, and peer support, not just academic, but social and emotional too. Class atmosphere is more positive with incentives and shared goals; we notice less isolation and more connection.\r\n\r\nOver the next weeks/months, we plan to: continue to host regular house-challenges and competitions (academic and social) to reinforce core values like respect, kindness, responsibility, and cooperation. Use the photo printer to capture and celebrate house moments (group work, acts of kindness, house wins) so that students can look back and feel proud, which will build long-term memories. Gradually involve older grade levels (when possible) to expand the house system schoolwide, growing the sense of community beyond our 4th-grade students.","fullyFundedDate":1756160427407,"projectUrl":"project/building-character-one-house-at-a-time/9594911/","projectTitle":"Building Character, One House at a Time","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Cramer","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8701930_orig.jpg?crop=3039,3039,x0,y151&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1756168451228","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8701930"},{"teacherId":10176808,"projectId":9594973,"letterContent":"The generous classroom donation of games, books, and supplies has made a truly positive impact on my students. Students are now able to find materials more easily and stay organized during lessons and group work. This has encouraged greater independence and responsibility, allowing our class to run more smoothly each day.\r\n\r\nThe social-emotional learning books have become one of our favorite additions. Our new ant farm has become a daily source of fascination — students eagerly observe how the ants build tunnels and work together, connecting what they see to our lessons on life cycles. We've also studied the life cycles of plants and animals, deepening students' understanding of how living things grow and change.
