Graphic novels are wonderful tools in developing literacy and a love of reading! They draw kids in with their engaging comic book art style, but often the text is simple enough for struggling readers to be able to read and comprehend. My library has a fairly extensive graphic novel collection in English - they fly off the shelves and often have a list of scholars waiting to check them out! While 64% of my scholars are native Spanish speakers, only 8% of the graphic novels in my library are in Spanish. I frequently have scholars ask if a graphic novel they saw in English is available in Spanish and it breaks my heart to have to tell them no. This project would help me to build up my Spanish language graphic novel collection and bring my scholars the books they want to read in a language that is more accessible for many of them. Our library collection should reflect the diversity of our student body and with your help, I can make this happen!
