My students come to the classroom with a wealth of knowledge and a diversity of experiences. They are all ESL students, coming from 7 different countries and speaking 4 different languages at home. In terms of English ability, they range from newcomers to advanced speakers and writers. My challenge as the teacher of this tremendously talented group of young people is to find ways to tap into their wide potential and help them make the leap to mastering rigorous high school level materials and themes. My students love to discuss current events. They love to analyze exciting works of fiction. They love to make breathtaking connections between literature and their own lives. Most of all, they love to feel successful in the face of challenges that can sometimes feel stacked against them. These resources can help that desire become reality.
