Kids need to learn how to READ the newspaper! I don't want them to surf the New York Times online, where they don't really read the articles, but to get ink on their hands and learn how to really savor the daily newspaper. I teach a 12th grade US Government class at a large urban high school. My kids come from all walks of life: some are American-born, others are very recent immigrants. They've all chosen to be in this special US Government class - "We the People" - in order to really learn what government means to them and what we can mean to government.
