Teaching in rural elementary schools in the great state of Maine is very rewarding. As an Instructional Strategist, I work in two elementary schools within our district focusing on students who are not able to meet grade level expectations in reading and/or math. Each school has a population of just over two-hundred students, grades Pre-K to 5 and within each school, my intervention programming services 60 to 70 of these students. The schools are the center of the communities and we work to provide as many school to home opportunities and connections as possible throughout the year. Working with students that are struggling in math and/or reading can be rewarding and challenging all at once. It is important to assess each student's areas of strength and weaknesses in order to address skills needed for growth. Developing an individualized learning path for each student is essential for student success.
