We are located in the foothills on North Carolina. My school is 85% free and reduced lunch. My classroom has 25, fourth graders, 13 girls and 12 boys. I have 10 students who are consider obese by the national norm. My students are from homes where both parents work to make ends meet. Therefore, my students go home to an empty house and are told to stay inside till someone gets home. By the time a parent gets home, it is typical to late for them to go outside and get the needed exercise their body and brain needs. Also, by the time parents get home, they fix or go grab something that is a quick fix and is unhealthy for dinner. Not counting by this time, my students have already fixed themselves an unhealthy afternoon snack.
